Why is my computer trying to install the same update over and over again?

I keep getting an update on the taskbar, and when I go to install it it appears to be the same update each time. (it's a Microsoft.NET Framework 2.0 service pack).

What's going on????

Help please!!

No, it hasn't prompted me to.

I'll reboot now and see if that gets rid of it.

Thanks!

Hmm, rebooted but it's still coming up.

Also when restarted puter said "problem with Tray, Tray needs to close".

Never had that before.

Are you logged on as an administrator? If not it may not be able to install.

RustyBear - Yes, I'm the administrator.

Littlelapin - I can't remember the exact wording but I think it was along the lines of "there is a problem with Tray, Tray needs to close." That was all, and I had to click OK.

Just a bit baffled as to why this update keeps popping up on the taskbar despite me already having installed it.

OK thanks, will do that now.

Right it says:

Tray has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something the information you were working on may be lost.

And the update icon has reappeared on the taskbar. Grrrr.

Thanks for that. I searched for the tray.exe file and didn't find it, and regularly use AdAware and Spybot to check my system. I'll run another scan tonight just to be sure, and see if it recurs.

Otherwise all my programmes seem to be working ok, no other hiccups.
