I love firefox, have it on the laptop, much better than IE.

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 11:59

hmm won't seem to let me log on though testing

OP posts:
southeastastra · 10/04/2008 11:59

"does add block plus just work on firefox?"

yes - it's one of the hundreds of "add-ons" you can customise firefox with. Daunting at first when greeted with all of them...but really easy to install & uninstall if you decide you don't like them.

Click on the little snake at the bottom right of your screen. I found that pages load much faster and you can 'temporarily permit' any of the various pages that come up.

biglips · 10/04/2008 12:32

yes firefox as always

southeastastra · 10/04/2008 13:35

ah it must be the ads making mn slow for me as it's really slow on IE and quick as lightening on ff!

thank you all, clever people

For those that prefer other browsers (IE, Opera, Safari, etc) there's also Privoxy

oggsfrog · 10/04/2008 14:29

Oh. My. God. Thank you for the thread SEA! Thankyou for the suggestion terramum!

My dial-up connection speed is atrocious (beyond atrocious actually... averages 16.8kbps, but have no choice due to remoteness) and I've been trying to block for ages.
Never knew it was as simple as a Firefox add-on.

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/04/2008 14:33

Another ad block plus with firefox fan here. Can never understand it when people say the site is slow, as it runs like a dream for me!

GeekBoy · 11/04/2008 11:08

you think FF2 is quick - try the release candidate of FF3 - more than twice as fast...

MrsDog · 11/04/2008 11:15

Try kaspersky anti virus software. It blocks ads and makes a real difference to the speed of your pc. Miles better.

Ledodgy · 11/04/2008 16:04

Before you get kaspersky I have that on the laptop and with some MN ads it stops the whole of mn active convos working for me and the only way I can get it to work is to turn kaspersky off then on again refresh then turn kasper Spy off again. I have it permanantly off now as it's more trouble than it's worth.

GeekBoy · 11/04/2008 16:12

I found the same with Kaspersky.. ..bad AV, BAD BAD AV...
