Have you heard about phorm ? Did you know that the 3 biggest ISPs are selling your data showing every webpage you hit?

read this

A strong enough voice can stop this happening, except it is being kept very quiet and deliberately mis-sold to us

Oh yes, you can then sign here

This is a petition on the Downing Street website arguing that Phorm's technology is inherently invasive. The sigs currently look very male top heavy and I wondered if we could collectively change that!

It has now passed the 10,500 signature mark.

You should definitely sign and make it clear how unacceptable it is. They have had some bad press over it, but we need them to have more.

Is Mumsnet going to opt out of phorm? I read that Amazon and Netnums have.

onagar · 21/04/2009 12:08

Mumsnet should opt out in my opinion.

I am trying to opt my website out of phorm, but they have removed the simple online form and now you have to email them (and beg?)

As well as being an invasion of privacy Phorm will probably interfere with the workings of many sites as they mess around in the middle taking copies.

Also they say they won't copy passwords, but they can only tell after they have looked at the page and taken a copy so that's a bit meaningless.

We can't stop them copying certain pages using robots.txt. They say they will obey robots.txt file, but only the restrictions that apply to all similar operations. In other words they will take what they want unless you also block google, yahoo etc.

sunshinecity · 21/04/2009 13:54

Mmmmm, would be good if Mumsnet could let us know what their position on this is. How do we find out?

Juxal · 21/04/2009 13:59

Yes I did know about it. DH has been ranting about it for a long time now.

Thanks for pointing to the petition, I'll sign it and get dh onto it too.

Juxal · 21/04/2009 13:59

The petition is now closed apparently. Deadline 4th March.
