Have been given a Mac for my 40th birthday but it is being installed today.
Haven't a clue how to use one or how they vary from your typical PC.

So,you handy hinmts/tips and advice would be very gratefully received!

You can't rightclick, you need to use the little Apple key. Read the manual about the various commands.

Enjoy, Macs are fab! Which one have you got?

I love my mac, got it for Xmas and haven't looked back. I used the mac web site alot initially but now use a book called the missing manual here

McDreamy · 01/04/2008 12:30

The Missing Manual tells you all the mac short cuts, how to right ckick, delete etc

aDad · 01/04/2008 12:32

It really won't take you long to adjust.

A couple of days and you will feel totally at home on it and won't look back.

Many of the shortcut keys are the same, but using the apple key instead of Ctrl.

You turn it on using the button on the keyboard

you can turn it off by using the button as well, no need to shut down from the menu

I think they are far more intuitive than PCs and the new operating system is very nice and shiny

OK so maybe I can get a bit excited rather than scared-thank you.

Haven't a clue which one -I know it's not the new super skinny one as it just looks way too fragile for my liking [clumsy emoticon]

So wothout sounding tooooo stupid-can they do anything a "normal" pc can't?
Oh and vice versa I guess.....

they often have a built-in camera

managing your fies will be much, much easier

if you put in a CD or DVD it pops up as a little picture on the desktop so you don't have to got through menus to open it

Well it arrived yesterday and I have to say it is a beauty.

Not had time to play with it much yet or indeed to transfer all my "stuff" from my PC but am sure I will have some fun with it.

The built in webcam for ichat and skype is fab-dd has been chatting to her aunties all morning
