Help with naming people on google photos

My android phone automatically recognizes some people in my search bar but I dont appear to be able to name people myself if their photo doesnt appear in the photos google chooses in the search bar. Is there anyway to do this. My phone doesnt have an edit icon next person only location or date. Can I add that icon? Thank you

thank you so much for taking the trouble to do this. the features you have posted are what i am using. however a significant number of people never appear in the list of faces despite being in hundreds of my photos and i wanted to be able to add them so they can be named too. it appears from the link you have attached this is not possible. i cant understand why they dont automatically appear as other people who have only been photographed once years ago do appear. it seems very random.

I guess what I need to understand is why some people show in the list of photos that you can add names to and others dont. it seems really random. Some people who i have only photographed on one day show but people who have been photographed hundreds of times dont show up. Is there a way I can manipulate the photos so they show up so I can then name them? Thank you
