i just got an email warning me of a "terrible" virus with no known cure - it's a postcard virus and will come from someone known to you - has anyone else heard of it?

It's a hoax - urbanlegends.about.com/library/bl_postcard_virus.htm

The email is apparently usually like a chain letter - telling you to forward it to everyone you know. There's loads of these about, and they're pretty much always hoaxes. I got caught out the first time I got one, but I've had loads of them since and they never have any real truth to them (beyond the fact that yes, there are viruses, and they could come on an email from someone you know, if their PC has been infected).
