I think you can, but you need to organise it before you buy the phone.

Guide to porting your number

What did Orange say? They should have said "contact Vodafone"

UniversallyChallenged · 18/03/2008 09:14

well how bizarre

have put my old sim into my new phone and it accepts it no problem. Thought it would be blocked. Have rung out on it and it works.

Thanks for that info tribpot

Well it will work in the new phone if you haven't cancelled your old contract. But that means you will need to not cancel it forever, i.e. you'll have to pay Orange AND Vodafone if you don't port the number over.

UniversallyChallenged · 18/03/2008 09:17

they are both pay as you go, not on contract so will they just carry on? or should i cancel the orange one?

you can transfer old number to a new phone on a new network - even if new phone has been activated with a new number. (I've just done the same). Phone old network and ask for PAC code. Then tell new network the new code and number you want to transfer. It takes about 7 days. You get a text on new phone confirming when change has taken place.

you need to contact voda and request your pak code, might give you it straight away, might take a few days. Once you have this then you need to contact orange, tell that you would like to port your number across, and give them the pak code, might take 10 working days but there is usually a cross over period meaning you wont be without your number.
