Is it Western Europe Japan & SOuth Africa?

Or something else (I can only change it once - I think)

You're right, it should be region 2, which is western Europe and Japan (I didn't know SA was region 2 as well).

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 22:45

Thanks

I didn't want to change it to that only to find out I was wrong

Fingers crossed it works

If it's changeable, can't you change it to universal?

WendyWeber · 15/03/2008 22:48

(Or multi-region or whatever - ours is multi-region, and then you can buy cheap DVDs off t'interweb - the best source seems to be Australian, those DVDs come up as R2 & 4 and are much cheaper)

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 22:49

Current region code is 'free'

But disc is supported by 'Western Europe Japan & South Africa'

I don't seem to have a universal option

Stupid computer

OP posts:
bran · 15/03/2008 23:00

Some DVDs are coded to only play on players that are set to a region and so won't play on region-free players.

If it's on your computer then perhaps you can install more than one player and set different software packages to different regions.

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 23:01

That's clever Bran

So Ill set this one to Western Europe Japan & SOuth Africa & worry about other DVD's when we want to watch one that won't work

Good idea

Thanks all

Before you attempt that please note that I am not a computer geek at all so it would probably be wise to get a second opinion before installing extra dvd software.

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 23:09

I'm not worried I have Mumsnet

They can do anything

Your DD is an unusually perceptive 10 yr old.

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 23:19

I know

I think it should be roman catholic but as long as it is a practising Christian of some description it will probably be alright.

Oh. region!

KatyMac · 15/03/2008 23:26

Actually my computer thinks it's Jewish - & I have to name him/her soon

Apparently it's the processor that I have to name - but I'm stuck on ideas

Glad I'm not the only one misreading this as "what religion should my DVD player be"

No, you didn't at all. I'm just misreading...

you can normally change a DVD device 4 times then it locks out any further changes.. however.. there are many tools to reset the firmware to let you make further changes

KatyMac · 16/03/2008 19:22

Can you do networks too?

(BTW Bran - I knew MN would sort it out )
