Does anyone use TalkTalk for phone and Broadband? Is it ok? It seems very cheap!

Like, suspiciously cheap.

Like, half the price of BT cheap.

I think the 18 month contract on the Sky must be due to run out soon. There is nothing I watch on Sky that I can't get on free-view, so I am looking to pay out considerably less.

So, I already have a BT landline - do I get their cheapest broadband and phone package, allowing me free calls to landline all the time for £37 per month, or do I go for the unknown quantity - TalkTalk, which will give me free land line calls evenings and weekends, but 100 free mobile minutes evening and weekend, and more GB download space, for £19.99?

I do understand that this is a dreadfully dull question, but I haven't get anyone else to ask!

My parents have it and it's fine. But beware, the customer service is pretty crap from what I've heard.

we have talktalk, we've had the odd couple of days with a dodgy broadband connection, but other than that, its fine. we have the deal with cheap calls all day as we both work from home, and we pay talktalk for our line rental as is cheaper then bt. we've used them for about 3 years.

Customer service just awful. We're so cross with them we're changing to Waitrose/greenbee as soon as our contract is up.

yes, agree, if you need to ring up, it is a waste of time, but i think that is the case for most of the internet providers. they can do it so cheaply as they use call centers that are abroad

I have it. Basically it's fine if it's going right, but customer service is slim to nil when things go wrong. We've been with them for about a year and during that time we've lost our phone completely once, and had unbearable static on the line twice, each time for about a fortnight. Both times required several dozen calls, the first half dozen of which involved persuading them there was a problem.

However we put up with the crapness because of the price.

Some other downsides:

They switch you to talktalk phone straight away, but there may be a longish wait before you get your broadband. During that time you will obviously have to pay for another broadband service, so you end up paying twice, once for talktalk phone and once for your other broadband.

If you have their line rental package it seems to be a nightmare when you move. Basically from what friends have told me, talktalk can't move you - so you have to cancel your package with them (and pay a cancellation fee), then sign up at the new house with BT in order to activate the line and pay an activation charge, then cancel your package with BT (and pay a cancellation charge) and then reinstate your package with talktalk.

Have a google on it - there seem to be a lot of angry people out there although who knows, it may have improved since my friend moved house...

i have it. had a few problems at first but now its fine. never had a problem calling them up. i am going to move to sky because its cheaper with my telly bit. but i would recommend talk talk they've got a lot better. the amount i was paying went down so much when i moved from BT i would never go back.

lucykate · 13/03/2008 22:08

but still, saying that, the last time we had to ring, the man i spoke to was very polite and helpful, best time to ring is 8am on the dot as soon as they open

Agree that customer service is really poor. And don't whatever you do agree for them to 'migrate' you from one address to another - this took us more than 2 months! Much easier just to start again. The service works fine though when all is up and running. However, one thing that really irritates me is that if there's a problem with your bill (they thought we hadn't paid, in fact we'd set up a direct debit with them etc bloody etc), they cut your phone off immediately! When you try to dial out, your call is diverted straight to TalkTalk.

Even just remembering all that has got me in a rage! You do get what you pay for in this case!

Don't get me started. Talk Talk is the PITS. Honestly. Avoid like the plague.
