Ok clever people, how do I get a basicspreadsheet, or is it a database I want, on my PC

I would like one to do a running tally of our spending over the next few months. So ic an go and add starting balance, tehn put additions or deductions in as and when I need to
I don't want anything fancy though

Right I found something called Microsoft excell 2003 or somesuch, it has loads of columns though, 15 going across and loads going down
