How can I delete photos from my iCloud storage?

I know how to check the storage, most of it is taken up with photos.

when I go to manage account storage I can select photos but then the only option is ‘turn off and delete from iCloud’ when what I’d like to do is go through and delete duplicates and some of the videos.

is there any way to do this or are they all stuck on there?!

The idea with iCloud is all of your devices that are signed into the same Apple ID account and stay synchronised automatically.
For example if You take or delete a photo on your iPhone the change will be reflected on all of the other devices.

So ....There are a couple of ways to delete photos in iCloud.

Solution A

  1. Log into iCloud.com with your browser
  2. Find the Photo app
  3. Select and delete the unwanted photos.
  4. Any devices that have Photo's enabled with iCloud will automatically delete the same images, provided it's on the same Apple ID

Solution B

  1. On any device that has the Photo application enabled with iCloud on the same AppleID. (i.e. iPhone, iPad, iMac, etc)
  2. Select and delete the unwanted photos.
  3. Any devices that have Photo's enabled with iCloud will automatically delete the same images, provided it's on the same Apple ID

Go into the photo app, click on albums then scroll down to utilities and there’s an option for managing duplicates there. It’s not done automatically.

Would you consider using google photos instead, here is something i posted before....

If you have a gmail account, pay google e20 per year then install google photos on your phone or tablet and it will backup your photos to your google account, then you can turn off icloud photo backup

You can also install google drive on your computer and set it to backup you old photos to google photos too

Google photos works with all devices so you can sign in on any make phone or computer and your photos are instantly on it

Even on my TV i can look at photos i took with my phone today,

on my phone i can scroll all the way back to the photos i took with my first digital camera in christmas 1999

I can order photos and albums to be printed and posted to me from all my devices too

Thanks, I’ve cleared a bit of space today.I hadn’t realised that I had to go to the iCloud website and not just do it from my phone or iPad.

the Google thing sounds interesting, I thought keeping everything with apple was best but I might need to rethink that!

You only need to do it on one of the devices that are connected to the account, or you can do it on iCloud it makes no difference as they are all synchronised.

Personally I would keep it all with Apple solutions as they work well and integrate with other apple applications.

I found that if I deleted them on my phone they didn’t delete from iCloud so I was still getting messages about storage being full. Even though they are synched up and photos appear in both etc. When I did it via the iCloud website it worked though.

That isn't what I would expect, it may however take a few minutes, or longer for it to synchronise.

You might try leaving it over night to see if it sorts it's self out.

Maybe phone is no longer syncing to icloud photos

I regulariy see people struggling to tidy up icloud

I would deffo switch to google photos if I was you, its a very bad idea to be chained to one company
