you can get it bundled with cable tv, but assume she can't afford that either? (If it was either/ or I'd go for internet, personally). Some communities that don't have broadband have satellite internet (my dad does in the Lakes), but not sure how much that costs....

what about rekindling the good old fashioned art of letter writing?

virgin media? she'd need a to be in a cable area, you can check if she can receive it on their website. we don't have a bt line.

You can now get mobile-based broadband connection using a dongle, but I'm not sure that it would work out any cheaper really. She could check with her mobile supplier and see what they would charge. 3 are doing it for £10 a month here.

yes, but if she never makes calls, she'll get a low usage discount.

there are people struggling to make ends meet in all countries. perhaps they're just better hidden in the country where you are now?

SenoraPostrophe · 26/02/2008 22:02

oh, also companies like talktalk now do line rental packages over normal lines. not sure they're much cheaper than bt though. usually internet charges are higher than line renatl anyway.

libraries often have free access pc's with internet connections, she could use these to e-mail.

all BB connections require either a cables tv package or telephone line to function... and satellite is very expensive

I would suggest she purchase a USB 3G Modem from someone like vodafone or 3.. the device is about £15 and you can get pay monthly or pay as you go contract.. this is the only real way to get a no commitment connection to the internet in the UK
