Please help me do a chart in Excel

Aaaargh. Spent an hour trying to do this for the first time and am ready to chuck very swanky laptop through window. Am using Mac, if it makes a difference.

ALL I WANT TO DO...

is display a scattergram with two different sets of XY data on it. Excel will happily do me a scattergram with one set of XY data on it, but if I want to add the new set with a different colour code, it adds the X and the Y data separately so that it looks as if I have three data sets. Or I can have all the data on one chart, but then it won't give me two differnt symbols, so you can t see the contrast between the two data sets.

If anyone has got this far and knows what single, simple thing I am doing wrong, please rescue me!

Ok, I don't know which version you are using, but in 2007, if you select scatter graph, then choose 'select data', you will have a box appear that says 'select data source'.

choose 'add' legend series, a box appears with three fields:
series name, series x values, series y values.

assign name
type or select data for x, do same for y. click ok.

repeat for second set of data, making sure you call it something different.
