I need to replace my slowly dying iPad and need some advice please. What works like a kindle paperwhite, but isn’t a kindle? I want something I can read in the garden or on holiday, mainly for library books, blogs, online newspapers etc. so it would need wifi too. Thanks

I'm looking at getting kobo so following this with interest

I love my kindle paperwhite.
If you want something like a kindle, why not a kindle?

Frenchfancy · 29/05/2023 10:09

Kindle paperwhite is brilliant for this. Why don't you want one?

DisplayPurposesOnly · 29/05/2023 10:12

I have a kobo

I don’t want a kindle because my understanding is I can’t read library books on it (Borrowbox in my area). Also I read a lot of online things like Reddit and newspapers. I only buy Amazon books by exception if that makes sense. I also ideally would only want one device.

Because you can't read newspapers and library books on them?

I use the kindle fire and put the blue shading on and turn the light down. It's not as good as a paperwhite in the sunshine but I borrow books from the library as well and it's the only one I found that works well.

RampantIvy · 29/05/2023 23:22

You need something similar to a kindle paperwhite. Nothing else comes near other than a real book.

Can you buy and read books from Amazon, ie Kindle, on the Kobo?

Roussette · 30/05/2023 14:36

Kobo. Definitely... all of us have got one! You can borrow from the library on them.

Brilliant in bright sunlight and at night in the dark.

Middle of the road one is Kobo Libre. You don't need better than that I don't think. Battery life is amazing by the way

Kindle is not any good for borrowing books from anywhere

No. There's lots of places to buy from though, and Kobo has its own bookstore

The format is ePub

Thanks everyone and especially for the link to that article which was really helpful. Sounds like a Kobo is the best option and I’ve just bought a BNWT Kobo Clara on Vinted for £90.

I've just bought a Kobo Libra 2 - have overdrive on it but have Libby on my phone. How do I get the library book from Libby to kobo please?
