my tiscali connection keeps on going off, its a headache having to reconnect all the time. It does this for a few days, then is fine.

Ive asked them in about 5 emails to send me a new modem. They always respond that one is in the post but they never send it out.

Argh! Fed up with them.
Any recs? thanks

Shannaratiger · 11/02/2008 14:17

Agree with PP. We r with sky, £10/mnth with unlimited downloads and fastest speed(?). Free for the 2 slower limited options. Only if you have sky though.

iwouldgoouttonight · 11/02/2008 14:23

We use Nildram - DP is a bit of a techie and he's v happy with them.

vannah · 11/02/2008 14:53

thanks

Pipex. V reliable.

GeekBoy · 11/02/2008 15:12

Sky - reliable and cheap - predicated on you having Sky though. Cynical me didn't believe the wireless adsl router would 'just work' but it did!! I've probably rebooted it around 3 times in a year and generally thrash the pants off it when I'm working at home. Can't recommend them enough..

opinionateddad · 12/02/2008 18:53

I use Sky and can say that in nearly 12 months I have had no issues or problems.. as there in no unbundled exchange near me the cost is £17/month.. if you are near an unbundled exchange then the cost is zero if you have a Sky dish.. or £5 for the next service and then £10 for unlimited....

Works for me but i am sure others are going to now jump in and add their two cents,,,,

FYI - if you ask a group of people about a broadband provider you will get a load of people moaning about poor service from all of them.. I have been with BT and Sky and both have provided a good service.. I know people who are also on Sky and BT that have had bad service also...

One rule of thumb is to say no to AOL or Tiscli.. these are not good ideas

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:02

I had exactly the same problem with Tiscali and disconnection. I then sent off for the free wireless router they offer and it's great, I haven't had a problem since. It's much faster too.

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:03

By the way, Tiscali have now taken over Pipex

Volkl · 13/02/2008 22:07

i have BT broadband which is 'ok' sometimes a bit slow and sometimes off completely

i also have sky, so far so good, we also dont have a local exchange so pay £17a month too, but its been very fast so far for me (obviously this only good if you have sky tv)

rantinghousewife · 13/02/2008 22:07

My fil has had no problems with sky, we're with tiscali but, we've never had any problems.

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:10

Personally, I like Tiscali.

scotlass · 13/02/2008 22:10

LOL I thought it was me being rubbish. Tiscali being a nightmare for me too recently, keeps kicking me off or not letting me connect. Was there not something about safety being not as good with wireless rerooters? Just checking cos would like one and use with laptop downstairs as keep disturbing DD who sleeps in room next to computer when I LOL at some posts!!

ravenAK · 13/02/2008 22:13

Sorry to dissent - we have Sky (I was happy with Virgin but dh was wooed by a cheap satellite offer) & I find it goes off constantly. Also rude & unhelpful 'support', incorrect billing etc. Wouldn't touch them again!

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:29

As long as you are password/security protected scotlass, wireless is fine. This Tiscali router has transformed my life! I am in bed on my laptop as I type! DP snoring his head off

rantinghousewife · 13/02/2008 22:30

We bought our own router when we got the laptop, maybe that's why we don't have problems with it.

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:31

You can send for a free one from your tiscali account. Mine took just two days to arrive and withing half an hour of getting it I was wireless!

scotlass · 13/02/2008 22:32

thanks timeforme. Sounds great, I'm just thinking I should be going now. So tiscali isn't being a pain for you just now? I can't work out why it's taking ages to connect and keeps disconnecting

TimeForMe · 13/02/2008 22:34

It's brilliant! It connects quickly and has not disconnected once! It seems so much faster too.
