IOS or android/google parental control

IOS or android/google parental control - DD is likely to get her first phone this year before heading to secondary school in Sept. DD1 has an old iPhone and so is on ios parental control. I had planned to give DD2 old Samsung so use Google. DW is 100% apple so doesn't want to deviate and insists she will be reviewing. Can I have some honest reviews on both systems.

Google Family Link is a bit crap on content restrictions, and with such an unstructured ecosystem, tonnes of stuff falls through the gaps. Not that Apple Screen Time is infallible.

I think Screen Time works pretty well when setup right. I don't allow apps to be installed without my approval for vetting. Watch out for allowing non-safari browsers. Screen time exceptions are pretty good. Content filtering can be a bit aggressive (no bad thing), but exceptions easy to manage.

If DD1 is using iOS then makes sense to put DD2 on too. Does benefit if more than one parent is on IOS though. Even if it's just a family iPad.

I had a major issue with Apple parental controls a couple of years ago where they were wiped after a system update so access was open for a while without our knowledge. Check regularly with either just in case!

Google can be controlled from any phone (including apple) with Google link app. Apple require the parent to have a apple device, you cannot control child access from a pc or android device. On that alone I prefer Google.

Both have screen time limits, and can prevent any app install unless approved. Lock the browser to Safari or Chrome to ensure website access control.

We use both regularly.

Very little to choose between them, in all honesty.

I prefer google as I generally prefer Android devices.

My Wife prefers Apple as that's what she uses...
