My daughter needs a new lap top which runs Microsoft Suite. She has recently moved and has to look for employment so she needs it for this and home use. She needs a reasonable size screen and not too expensive. I have only used Apple I Pads with a limited use of a Mac. She has asked me to research it for her but my last Microsoft was years ago!! I am in my eighties and not familiar with anything but Apple. I would be so grateful for any help you can give us. Thank you.

You can run Microsoft Office 365 on a Mac.

The newer macbooks with M1 or M2 chips have phenomenal battery life....

If she wants a windows machine obviously a lot more choice, but I'd go for either an i5 or Ryzen 5 processor, 8 or 16 Gb of RAM, 512GB Hard disk.

Screen size is the main thing, 3:2 size screens are a game changer for office work - generally available in 14" - better portability, or 16" - better usability as a desktop replacement.

The surface laptop 5 has just released, £1300, but it does mean currys are doing the Surface 4 for £879.

If that's too much money, the Huawei matebook 14 and 16 are £600 and £680 respectively on their website and come with some freebies and the option of discounted extended warranties.

I love my work laptop. Dell latitude. Try and spend as much as you can as Office is really hard on memory.

Thank you so much for replying. Your posts are really useful. At the moment the cost is a factor as she has moved and looking for work.
