Eek! Downloaded something I shouldn’t have!

Please can any kind tech-competent person help me?

I have an IPhone and have downloaded something I shouldn’t! I didn’t know what it was, I was looking for an answer to something quickly, tapped “accept cookies” and as I was tapping that, there was a box behind it that I inadvertently tapped as well! Argh!

I gather you shouldn’t t ever download anything when you don’t know where it’s come from, so what do I do now pls? And pls could you explain the process to me in noddy steps?

First of all: where do I find the downloaded “thibg” please? It’s not where screen shots go to die. And yes I am a tech numpty.

Have a look in your apps catalogue and see if there is anything downloaded. Sort in date order and it will be the last one installed

It wouldn't be a screen shot. That's just a photo

Open safari and tap the jigsaw piece on the address bar. There should be an option 'downloads.' Tap that and it should show recent downloads.
What kind of page where you looking at? I doubt you've downloaded anything bad. It may not even be a download, so many sites have loads of pop ups that try and get you to sign up to newsletters etc.

inappropriateraspberry thank you so much but no jigsaw piece on address bar! Just something that looks like an open book and the overlapping square icon for copying text. Of all things, thanks to another thread on here, I was looking up how to pronounce the brand name L'Occitane on the internet. (I do have a serious reason for doing so as we are ordering from them for staff presents this year and I need to be able to say the name properly!) Anyway, I clicked on an article about L'Occitane publishing a little film on their website explaining the prononciation. The reason I am worried though is the box behind the box that I tapped on by mistake, didn't seem to have anything to do with that at all!

JungleBellsHoHoHo thank you, yes I know it's not a screen shot, but when I looked in a storage area on my phone (a page where there were some PDFs) there were some screen shots there too. I have looked in my app library (which is what I have on my phone) and can't see anything but sorry, don't know how to alphabeticize.

Sorry to be rambling on but I could see the "thing" being downloaded before my eyes and I don't like the idea of something potentially malevolent lurking in my phone!
