PayPal invoice but not ordered anything!

Sorry if this is the wrong section but I always ignore weird emails but there's actually a transaction pending and invoice in my PayPal account.
I have googled about this type of thing and apparently it is officially from PayPal but scammers can get into PayPal to try and invoice people.
I'm guessing I just ignore it but what should I do to keep my PayPal safe from this type of fake invoice?

I have created a message in the message centre where buy a PayPal agent will get back to me in the meantime.

Thanks

A friend of mine posted about this on facebook today. There is meant to be a phone number on the invoice claiming to be the customer service number of the company who issued the invoice. He says they try to scam your details when you ring them

Go to the message centre on the app and query it directly with paypal.

Sorry, your message hadn't fully loaded so I didn't see you had already queried it Smile

I had this recently, I cancelled the request and then forwarded the email to PayPal's phishing email address as it was so obviously a scam.

I went and changed my password, took all my cards off and closed my Paypal account. It's annoying because you think it's a scam email but then when you login to Paypal it's there as an invoice request telling you they will take the money ($599 from memory) so you feel you can't ignore it.

If you've logged into your PayPal (not by using any link in the email itself if it's a suspicious email, but directly by going to the PayPal website www.paypal.co.uk) and there is a real invoice there, then if you're not expecting, you can just ignore it.

Anyone can send an invoice to another person on PayPal, and all they need is an email address. So the scammers just buy lists of millions of scraped email addresses, send an invoice to all of them and hope that a few of them will actually pay it without question.

Ok thanks so much!

Tis the season and all that.
Yes it's 599 quid for a laptop.

Yes it's in my PayPal official, haven't got an option to delete it or that kind of thing.

It's quite concerning isn't it, just when I thought I knew obvious scams.
I mean it is obvious, and it's a huge amount of money that I don't owe but still.

Thanks again all. x

You can forward the email to [email protected]. They always acknowledge with thanks.

hilariousnamehere · 16/11/2022 00:31

And you can go into the invoice / request and cancel it too. I didn't like it just sitting there!

Batcountry8 · 16/11/2022 02:44

Ok I did that. I was too scared to click anything but thanks I've deleted it now.
