My portable hard drive is constantly beeping!!

I plug it into the USB and it's beeping. So i've turned off the laptop, plugged it back in and it's doing the same thing.

Is it f*cked?

Oh and it doesn't show up as being plugged in at all either!

DH says it may be dead Have you tried another usb slot or another cable (if you can?)

hya, this same thing happened to mine. I knocked it over by accident, and the next time i turned it on it would not work. was it a packard bell one by any chance. In the end i took it back to the shop i got it from. I at this bit but, i told them it has just stopped working.

Mine's a packard bell too! It's been fine and has been dropped a couple of times too. It does sometimes have a beeping session but normally turning the pc off cures it. This wasn't having any effect on it tho. Thanx to burstingbug's DH, i've swapped it to another USB port and it's now working fine again. I think the USB port i was using has broken because i knocked the laptop off the table the other day and lots of stuff is now loose and not clicked into place properly lol.

Still, it's working now and that's all that matters. All my hard earned hours of downloading is not lost!! Yay!!
