Really dopey wifi question

I'm in a 1⭐ hotel and I've brought my laptop

My phone (Galaxy S7) can connect with the wifi (Virgin) but no amount of trying will get my laptop to get on

I've got a few emails to send, with attachments saved on my laptop and I can't get on the wifi

Shows the wifi network as 'Open', tried 'Connect' and the message reads 'Cannot connect to this network'

I've tried Troubleshooter (Microsoft)

Tried to Connect with the 'Connect Automatically' button checked and unchecked

Tried with and without Airplane mode

I don't want to trail around a strange city, hoping to use my laptop in a coffee shop or Greggs

But I will if I have to

Can a network tell the difference between a laptop and a mobile device?

Can a network be programmed to reject laptops?

Are you sure you get unlimited devices?

That was my thought too, some hotels often limit the number of devices. Have you tried disconnecting your phone ("forget device") and logging on with your laptop?

Can you just tether your phone to send what you need to?
