How to make laptop run faster?

I have a year old laptop and have been trying to load a game on Viva La Pinata.

I am on WIndows XP. It says that the computer was running fast enough (or to its potential) - is this MHz to run the game.

Anyone know how to make the computer run faster? I have been looking at the system bit in the control panel but can 't see anything there.

Thanks

you can get rid of anything you don't want on it - applications you never use or big emails/photos/videos etc. That will help a bit.

Also clear all the temp. files and cookies and stuff.

We have found that if we take the AV stuff off it goes double quick, as soon as you switch it on again it takes it's time to do anything.

Have you 'defrag-ed' the hard disk ever/ recently? Let me have a look and see if I can remember how to do this - always speeds mine up.
I think there is free software somewhere which you can also use to 'clean up' your hard disk?

There should also be a 'disk cleanup' function somewhere in accessories I think?

Don't forget the megaphone 100
Be wary of softwares saying they can improve your computer speed. Usually your computers are designed to run at the max speed they are set up for.
Alternatively you take your laptop to an expert who will upgrade the processor and memory etc.
