Geeky stuff

Oh FFS - you would think that Tesco could create a shopping site that actually worked!

I use a mac with firefox.
Intermittently can't use Tesco's site as it tries to open binary files when I go to certain departments, or try to access my favourites.
Usually have to open Parallels (makes it looks like a windows machine) and use IE.

Tonight I go to order, and they have a 'new look site' - great thinks I, they will have fixed the problems.

Ohhhhhh no. They've created more. Now can't even book a slot in firefox, and when I go into parallels, spend 20 mins adding things from my favourites, I then find that actually nothing has added to my basket at all.

Arrrrrggggghhhh. Now making dh try and do the shop, which is virtually as painful .

Anyone else have the same problem, or using the same set up as me and not having this problem?

oh dear. i have ff too...

I do too I use Firefox, Didnt realise this was the problem though not that clued up on computers really.
I get the binary files trying to open up when I try to access my favourites or all offers etc. It doesnt happen every time though as I have several times completed an order.
It drives me mad too, esp when half way through an order and cant finish it and panicing that only half my shop will be delivered.

What's wrong with Safari? Have Firefox on my MacBook, and have never used it. Have shopped with Safari on several occasions, no problems at all.

whomovedmychocolate · 18/01/2008 21:51

safari here and that doesn't work either!

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/01/2008 21:52

dh is a tecchie and says that they probably haven't set the 'mime type' correctly.

I think I will e-mail them a big whinge now I know it's not just me affected. They have lost lots of my business to Waitrose already.

I've tried safari too with the same problem.

Firefox and a PC works fine.

SoupDragon · 18/01/2008 21:54

Buy a PC purely to do your tescos shop on. Problem solved.

SoupDragon · 18/01/2008 21:56

You don't need to have a Waitrose, you need to be in an Ocado delivery area. It's not quite the same thing

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/01/2008 21:59

I have actual Waitrose Deliver, rather than Ocado .

We do have loads of PC laptops in the house, but I like to do my shop at the same time as lots of other things, not wait whilst I switch on one of dh's machines and then try to use 2 at once.

don't you have to actually go in and get your shopping for Waitrose to deliver it though? I scan & pack my own as I go round so it seems a bit OTT to ask them to deliver it too

Get your DD to do the shop from the wireless broadband in her playhouse

milge · 18/01/2008 22:05

I have had this problem too with Tesco and Firefox. They advised me to delete cookies before going to Tesco site, and it seems to work. Don't get those binary file down load requests anymore. Don;t like the new Tesco website much, either - its a bit too Sainsburys looking!
We have Waitrose Deliver here too

tissy · 18/01/2008 22:12

nope, no Ocado either .

Nearest Wairoses are Edinburgh, we're the other side of Glasgow

Even the Glasgow Sainsbury's won't deliver to us

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/01/2008 22:21

No Soupy - don't have to go in to Waitrose. They do it just like Tesco, only with a much better substitution policy - eg if I order a 200g pack of something, and they don't have it, but they do have a 400g pack, then I get the 400g pack for the price that the 200g should have been.

Just talking to dh about cookies now.

CantSleepWontSleep · 18/01/2008 22:28

Ah yes - just deleted my Tesco cookie and it's now working. What a PITA just because they are too lazy to code their site correctly.

Spoke too soon - it's just given me a binary shite thing again. That's it - I'm complaining.
