Laptop won't get past black loading screen

I have an MSI laptop which is about 6 years old. I moved on to a desktop so it remained off for a few years but would come on normally once charged. My mum wanted it to put Sage Accounting software on, and ever since installing that, it now won't get past the black loading screen with the MSI logo. I'm not great with computers but tried getting into the BIOS but it is completely unresponsive. I always kept the antivirus up to date and no dodgy websites, and we turned off the internet connectivity before installing Sage, so nobody has been online with it for a long time. I don't think it's the battery as it charges up, and we left it on the loading screen for a few hours unplugged and it eventually ran out as normal. Any ideas??? I'm blaming Sage!

Remove the battery and power cable so there’s no power source at all, press the power button and hold for 30 seconds.

Replace battery and power cable, switch on as normal.

Long shot, but worth a try.

Black screen of death. No ideas but I've had a laptop do this. IT guy said nothing he could do.

Will it boot from a live USB (assuming UEFI/BIOS is already set up to allow it and you don't have any fastboot stuff going on)?

This happened to my old laptop when the hard drive packed up. I replaced the hard drive, and it worked, but after reinstalling windows and other programs it ran so slowly I ended up giving up with it.
