Any good?

Any bad?

I know it is free wbut I don't want to trash my PC by downloading it, or if it is no good.

GIMP is a prime example of something really good that costs zero money..

It is not as good as some of the really expensive apps but it blows the standard paint out of the water..

SlightlyMadShrek · 15/01/2008 21:29

Definitely A Good Thing. It can do nearly everything Photoshop can do, except it's free .

Ubergeekian · 15/01/2008 22:46

It's very good, but does take some learning: menus have menus have menus. And it doesn't have a red-eye removal thingy. Well worth trying.

SlightlyMadShrek · 15/01/2008 22:49

it does have red eye removal I have seen a colleague at work use it for that very purpose. It is one of the better & easier Red eye tools I have seen too.

I have microsoft PhotoGallery and plan to download Picasa too which both do red eye.

I primarily want this to create some simple images from clipart and stuff rather than as a photo editor

(at least in teh first instance.

Thanks

The GIMP rocks. Used it for years, it's been stable for years and it's free (as in beer)...

Have happily run it on Windows/Linux and it's currently compiling on my little MacBook Pro.. ..hasn't ever misbehaved.. ..do it, download it, learn it, love it.. ;-)

SlightlyMadShrek: "it does have red eye removal I have seen a colleague at work use it for that very purpose."

Whoops. You are right - they have just started including an automatic red-eye removal plugin. It has always been possible to do it by hand.

SlightlyMadShrek · 16/01/2008 17:44

Have downloaded it

Have installed it

Have opened it

PC still owrking

BUT where the hell do I start...I guess I had better download help files????

SlightlyMadShrek · 16/01/2008 21:44

OMG.....I am soo confused.

All I want to do is create a grey rectangle, and put 3 cliparts on top of it to put in my webpage.....I don't have a clue where to start, there are so many options

OP posts:
Ubergeekian · 16/01/2008 21:47

You might be better with a drawing program - GIMP is heavy duty image processing, and hugely overkill for what you describe.

SlightlyMadShrek · 16/01/2008 21:54

Like what? Any free suggestions?
