Coverting mini DVDs to iCloud

Just found my old Sony camcorder with some great mini DDV footage of the kids from 15 years ago! How can I convert it into something I can watch in Apple? Or store it in a more usable way?

I would use VLC video player (free, available for Mac and Windows) to "rip" the DVD to MP4 format. Just Google "vlc rip dvd to mp4" and find a guide that you can follow.
