I want to make a DVD of some random 1960's clips, retro adverts and the like, for my mum for Mother's Day (yes, I know I'm leaving it a bit late!!). Is there a way to safely do this?

Try alltubedownload.net/

Thank you! I've asked it to 'download' but it just plays the vid as far as I can tell? Is that what's supposed to happen?

Try keepvid for YouTube. I used to use it a lot but not recently. Hopefully still works as well as I remember.

You can save the video to a PC or laptop and use the built-in Windows software to burn these files to a DVD.
