MS Office prob

We swapped my hard drive into another case which could take more memory and now Office thinks that I need to enter the product code, which my brother had given me. I didn't note it down as I assumed he had, but - yes, you're right j- he didn't.

So neither of us have the code. I have one for Office 2007 which apparently won't do ("we're having trouble recognising it" the popup box says).

I don' really understand why I have ot go through this rigmarole when Office was fine on the hard drive right up to the day we put it in a different case. It's the same drive!

Any ideas of what I can do?
Thanks

Many microsoft products are linked to either the specific hardware they were installed on, or, a specific microsoft user account.

To be honest, I'm surprised your computer works at all if you transferred the hard disk with windows and office into completely new hardware.

I would put the hard disk back in the old computer and follow a guide on how to recover your product keys.

Failing this, you could call microsoft, who of course would want some kind of evidence that you have paid for, or are entitled to be using their software. When I've called them with software activation issues - I had a motherboard fail and windows refused to accept the replacement - they were very helpful and activated over the phone for me.

Failing that - buy a new version, or, use one of the free and equally well featured alternatives such as Libre office or Open Office.
