We have an iMac desktop computer we bought in 2000. It doesn't work any more, and even if it did, it wouldn't run an up to date operating system. I deon't know if it's a fatal or a fixable error. It's on it's way to the dump - but before it goes, does anyone know anything more constructive to do with it?

I've just bought one for Very Little Indeed on eBay. It's going to be the garage computer (car manuals on CD) and will, as soon as I can get a keyboard for it, be running Ubuntu Linux. So there is an up-to-date operating system available. On the other hand, if any significant part has broken, chuck it out.

Just noticed somebody's selling 19 for £75 on ebay!

I don't want any money for it - I just HATE the waste of throwing it away - and I'd love to find something constructive to d with it rather than adding to landfill!

Maybe there's one of those 'found object' artists somewhere who could make a sculpture out of it?

Mine is now very happily running Xubuntu (the lightweight version of Ubuntu) with Firefox, Thunderbird and lots of other useful stuff.
