i think i downloaded one ages ago when my pc went belly up. should be listed under properties on my computer.

you could try a specialist help site like geeks to go for some serious techie help. they helped me when i had to do the same. (they linked exactly what i needed!)
good luck

BadKittenInAPearTree · 28/12/2007 21:52

Its under
control panel
system ---> hardware tab
device manager
display adaptors

then google what you have.
You need to know what sort of slot you have (the hole goes into!) - whether its pci or I forget the other kind it could be.
It is dead easy once you know what you need

BadKittenInAPearTree · 28/12/2007 21:54

when you google the card that you find you should be able to tell which sort of slot it needs - if not its a case of opening her up and carefully taking a look - card should be labelled (hopefully) pci slots are a different colour and lenght from other sort if I remember correctly.

its nvidia riva tnt.

my pc is from 1999 when they were all the rage!

I think I tried to download something off them the other day ( it was xmas day so can't quite remember amid the stodge and baileys).

Also, I thik i have aproblem, becuase my windows isn't (whispers) 'mine'

its a copy.

hell fire and all that.

To buy a new windows will cost £90 i think, one that is verified and all that. Will my problems be solved if I buy this, will I then be able to update the riva thing.

Or do I just need to buy a new car and bung it in the tower, and to hell with a proper windows??

You may not need a new graphics card, check on the back and compare the needed spec's with what you have. You may need more memory though (and its cheaper than a new graphics card).
Will ask hubby as he is a certified techie, when he gets up.

pirategirl · 29/12/2007 10:50

hi thanks for that.

ok update, i have installed the newest driver for the nivida locco thing lol.

When i had tried to do it before I remember it telling me to disable my anti virus. I was too scared to do this and didn't know how to.
Have done it now after googling how to.
I now have a new icon in the task bar called navida settings. .

I am going to try to reinstall this game now.

on back of game it says i need

pentium 1v 2 ghz or compatibel
512 mb ram
1.5 gb free harddrive space
24-x cd rom drive

video card- directX 8.1 compatible graphics card with 64 mb ram.

all very nice yet how do i find out what I have got??

help much appreciated.

i do recal a few yrs back we bought something to stick in the back of the tower to give us extra ???, taking it from 256 up to double that, so am assuming i have enough ram?

( yawning as i speak here)

more info for your hubby discoverlife.

when i installed the wildlife park 2 prog, it went very quick compared to when i installed a few days back. amybe this is cos i now have new drivers??

cltching at straws here.

there was alos an option to installl Direct x, do i need to.

Just tried to launch the game and i got this

'checking disc....'

'WLP2.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close'

so i am stuck now.

i do remember that happening a few days back and it also said something about tones and things to do with the appearance, and to make sure I was runing on at least 8 bit or 16 bit.

arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

The error message and crash you are getting is being caused by a known fault with that game, if you look in the instruction book for the webpage of the makers and then go to either "Downloads" or "Support" there will be a patch available for download, grab that and install it, then try running the game again.
I must admit looking at their tech support page it seems to be a common problem.
www.deepsilver.com and would appear to be yet another game developer releasing yet another title that is poorly coded and not in any way fit to be released to the general public for hard earned cash.

The below advice is for Windows XP.

Re the appearance question, on the desktop (Computer) find and empty part of the screen and right click on on... scroll down the now open window and select "Properties" .... That will open up a new window..at the top yuo will see some tabs..click on "Settings" you can now see what card you have and the screen resolution (IE..800x600 etc etc) and also what the Colour quality is. it should be set on 32bit if its not click on the scroll tab and select it, you will get a new window open to ask if you wish to apply the new setting..click yes..

Right now if that all goes well see how it runs and what the textures and colours are like.

You will also need the new version of "DirectX" and i believe its at 9.0c.

There is a built in DirectX checker on XP and if you need to know how to get to and check out what you are using let me know.

hi there,

much appreciated.

ok i turned it to 32 bit and we now have googgle working perfectly. It did go into what I 'thik' is called safe mode for a few seconds, but then came back up all nice. Is safe mode when its realy basic, the look of the icns etc..??

I had a look in the general trouble shooting and definately have yellow exclamation marks by 2 items in the device manager, as said here

  • In the windows device manager, make sure there are no device conflicts. You can recognize conflicts by a yellow exclamation mark in the device manager. (To open the device manager, right-click on ?My Computer? and select ?Properties?.. Select the tab ?Hardware? and click on ?device manager?

the yellows are next to

'other devices'

Multi media controller
+
Multi media video controller

the 'patch' you were talking of I havent found yet??

ia m going to do a fewmore bits they suggest too. so will get back to you.

thanks again

oh gosh, even tho i kep setting it to 32 bit for gogle, it keeps teling me direct x is not supported and to set it to 32 bit, then try again. thenit goes back to safemode. Then it happens again.

very annoying seeing as it worked perfectly earlier.

oh the game, it says it cannot read the disc now.
