Currently have a MacBook Pro which is 19+ years old and on last legs. Can't decide whether get any 13"ipad pro with keyboard etc or MacBook?
Used mainly for work (secondary teacher)/ uni work and fun stuff!

I would err on MacBook personally. iOS is great and the iPad Pro with k'board is good, but MacOS still pips it in my view, so would go MacBook.

Also, v impressed with the 19+ year old MacBook too, just shows that despite the upfront cost, Apple computer hardware does age well and arguably more cost effective over the long term.

MacBook if it's your only laptop / computer. Some things just don't work on iOS.

MacBook Air M1, it's a good compromise between the two.

Yep I couldn't believe the age when I checked either! Defo worth the higher upfront cost!

What kind of thing doesn't work? I only need basic spreadsheet/typing capability.

@missy111 I've found that some websites / forms don't render properly on iOS / iPadOS. If you're only going to be using it for very basic functions then you might be ok.

Google Docs don't really work well on an iPad whereas they're passable (just) on Mac.

You can't upgrade the hardware (such as adding RAM).

MacBook Pro came out in 2006.

As someone who has both a M1 Pro and a 12.9 iPad Pro... I wouldn't recommend the iPad as your only device. Some things just don't quite run right on iOS yet and I think you'd be frustrated by the limitations.
