Mifi / Hot spot

I am moving house next week and I am unable to be connected to the internet until the middle of January.

In the interim I want to get a temporary internet. I've been advised to look for a hot spot or mifi, I know absolutely nothing about either. I put both into Amazon and have no idea of what I'm looking at is worth the money.

Once we have the real internet I would like to use the temporary internet in a shed (my cozy zone), at the bottom of the garden.

What exists that doesn't require regular top ups and can be easily connected and used by an technophobe?

Thank you.

Do you know anyone that has a mobile wifi? I have mine with a monthly limit on it because I used to travel a lot and free wifi wasn’t as available as it is now. Can’t remember last time I used it! You might have a friend that has an unused dongle you can borrow?

Can you use your phone as a hotspot?

If not, or if you want a permanent connection you need both a data SIM and a hotspot device, plenty on amazon if you search 4g hotspot, you can get 5g as well, but more expensive. Decent middle range ones from huawei, tenda, d-link, tp link from around £40-50.

some look like you can run them off a powerbank as well to extend the built in battery life.

Most smartphones will allow you to set up a hotspot. You would need a suitable data allowance. It used to be that a lot of mobile contracts wouldn't allow hotspots. That may still be the case? I'm not sure how suppliers could tell anyway.

My mesh system gives me good wifi at the end of my garden. You may be OK in a shed without needing a mobile hotspot?

Thank you for all the helpful replies. Will it it be as simple as plugging something in and it will magically work?
