Problem with DS's PlayStation 3.. no receipt..

He is 15 and bought it himself with his work money. He failed, it seemed, to put the receipt away somewhere safe and also to send off the warrenty card thingy that I assume was inside.

Now it won't read the discs. He's had it a couple of months; bought it from Woolies; paid in cash.

Someone has suggested we take it to the Sony shop at a local-ish shopping centre and ask for advice.

Will they fix it? And are they likely to charge him?

i dont know if they will
but just so u know we had the same problem at the weekned as well.

Speak to the Woolies Customer service desk first (if you can get through) they tend to be more lenient than the people in the stores, and can advise your local store to give him a refund or exchange. If they won't help, talk to the Sony Customer Service people and see what they say. I haven't had any dealings with Sony, but we had something similar with a LeapPad and that was replaced free of charge by the LeapFrog people after Argos couldn't help.

I think if you ring sony they will help. the number will be in the manual. as it is under a year old they should be able to help you

sony are normally quite helpful from my experience

Call the sony help line they are very helpful. We have had to send back a couple of playstations and it had been fine. They will ask for the machine refernce number so they will be able to tell the age of the machine and help.

as it was only released in march this year they will know it is less than a year old too at the moment.

Thank you all loads for your help!

I started off by ringing Woolworths who told me to ring the Sony Playstation 3 helpline and they are couriering DS a new one in the morning!!

DS is over the moon.. he thought he was going to have to fork out some of his hard earned (by washing up in a restaurant kitchen!) wages, bless him! I think he's learnt the important of putting documents in a safe place now.

Thank you!
