Good old Android vs iPhone debate...

Posting here as got lost in chat...

I have been a loyal android user for years, last had an iPhone circa 2008, everyone else in my household is android. Bought myself an ipad last year as I wanted it for Procreate and I love it. Now, do I want an iPhone? I haven't had a new phone for years (currently have a Huawei P20, pay around £10 per month, SIM only) and am pondering on an iPhone but no idea which series or model etc. Am I nuts to go back to apple after so long? They are pricey and I don't want to regret it.

I only have a Chromebook, no big laptop to hold iTunes etc which is what I used to have and it was a total PITA. What is the process now for music etc with iPhone - presumably you'd just stream music so no need to save it to the phone itself?

What should I be weary of? Thanks for any input!!

I don't like androids I think they're completely shit. I've had both and ended up going back to Apple.

The only good thing about android is they have much better cameras, Samsung specifically.

Music you just steam through your phone. I hate the weird fonts people have on android. Apple is more simplistic in some ways I think.

I gave up on apple and went back to Android, phone and tablet.

iPhones are such a con, I am on my 5th one since February 2018, if you so much as bang it by mistake it plays up, and the batteries are crap and Apple will tell you to close all tabs but it doesn’t help. They are a rip off and they are so expensive to buy outright and I think they make them shabby on purpose so Apple can keep lining their pockets.

The only issue is that I’m so used to Apple now and apart from iPhones or Samsung, then there isn’t another one I want to use.Confused

I was just reflecting yesterday that my lovely red iPhone XR still looks like new and behaves like new. It will be 2 at Christmas. It is brilliant. I never get 3 hours out of my AirPods like my mate does but they outlast a virtual gym class which is what I bought them for. I wouldn't swap op x

I love red iPhones Grin although they aren’t very common, most people I know have black or silver iPhones, red is my favourite colour of phones.

Apple iTunes has been replaced by Apple Music and is all about streaming these days.

Another thing with Apple is that they typically support their older models with software updates much longer than Android.

You're going to have the android fans and the iPhone fans, and once you decide you like one or other then the other is awful.

I'm android and cannot bear iphone

HouseOfFire · 12/10/2021 21:36

I am a firmly Android/windows techie. I joined a new company recently that offered me a MacBook or a new windows laptop. I opted for the MacBook to see what all the fuss is about. I have to say I absolutely hate it. I don't mind my kids iPads and iPhones quite as much but the whole authentication / family sharing stuff drives me nuts. My 12y old now has a very expensive MacBook. I'd be wary about switching tbh. I would rather use a carrier pigeon now that get an iPhone.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 13/10/2021 16:52

I've got one of each. One personal, one work. I prefer Android.

MrsBooks · 13/10/2021 17:22

Thanks for your comments. I think I'll have to find time to go to town and go in the apple store to try one before I commit to one!

Samsung have only got 2 phones in the top 30 for camera rating - the S21 Ultra - 24th, and the S20 UIltra - 19th, both have an RRP of over £1200.

Honor V30 and the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra are probably best per £.

Apple has lots of phones in the top 30.
