Laptop for DD 6th Form

We need to get DD a laptop for when she starts 6th Form in September.

They have said it needs to have Windows & be able to run Office 365.

She’ll obviously be taking it around with her so nothing to big/bulky. Looking for something decent enough for her to do her work on. Budgets wise, under £300 would be ideal. Any recommendations for one that will be good enough for under that price?

I can run Office 365 on my Chromebook so they might be worth a look if Windows isn't a hard requirement?

I'd always had a Windows laptop but got sick of the constant huge updates. I've had my Chromebook for three years now and it's been wonderful. Very light, long battery life (easily did 9+ hours while I was at uni) and very quick.

I'll have a look into those, thanks!

For £300, definitely a chromebook if they allow it - my daughter got one for lockdown and it runs 365, teams etc just fine.

Tier1online have a Grade A refurb Thinkpad X1 Carbon for £299, they cost about £1500 when they came out a few years ago, and should be capable enough, they also have some less sleek and lower condition laptops for less money that offer some upgradability.

It might be worth having a look at minimum specs required for uni as well if she is thinking of going that route and you can find somthing affordable. We have a DD just going in to 6th form as well and figured we didn't want to have to buy another laptop or upgrade it in 2 years if she did go to uni possible as it would work out more expensive than getting a mid range suitable laptop now.
