All lights are on , but all afternoon I was getting a warning saying low on memory and I need to shut down The internet explorer wouldnt open and the desktop images (have vista with the clock and calender)had gone fuzzy with black lines accross them. I also had to shut down outlook as text was missing.

How can this be , its only just been opened and loaded up in the last 2-3 days ?????????? Theres very little saved , just new applications like windows live , real player , java and some add ons. No files have been moved onto it except previous laptops favourites.

I just cant believe it , its brand new!!!!!!

You may have inadvertantly turned off the backlight. Do you have a sun symbol on one of your function keys along the top? If so, press Fn and this key at the same time. You could also try adjusting brightness, if you have the right keys.

It may be related to this problem which affected several Acer laptops in schools in our borough (Quote is from pour Techs support forum)

"Problem of failure to boot in Acer 4150LCi laptops
Some of these laptops fail to boot with the following symptoms:
Power on ? Acer splash screen ? Cursor in top left of screen and no further response (keyboard has no effect).
Eurotechnix say that this is a Hibernating issue related to a BIOS bug on these machines.

The solution is:
Remove the Acer Epower management software.
Then, Go to Control Panel - Power Options ? Hibernate tab and uncheck the Enable Hibernation box.

If the computer cannot be booted at all, try booting after installing the HDD from a laptop which is ok. If this fails, call Eurotechnix."

Might be worth trying disabling hibernation and /or removing the management software (I'd do a back up first though if you haven't already - you are usually prompted to do this first time you switch on)

Of course this does depend on you actually being able to see what you are doing.
Can you try attaching another monitor to it?

Is this anything like your problem?
This forum is pretty useful generally.

This happened to me a couple of times when I inadverantly pressed the 'lock' key. I pressed the lock key again to get the screen back (F1 on my Toshiba model)

yes that hibernation thing seemed to be the problem just now. So thats one thing sorted sort of !!

Now I need to look into why the images on the desktop look corrupted. The screen had the look of a screen thats graphics cards going?
