Switching from iPhone 5s to Android

I've had my iPhone 5s for a while now and have tried to install a couple of apps with no success due to it not having the most recent update.

There is so much choice at the moment and I need to do some research before settling for a particular model. I'm thinking maybe a Samsung galaxy but does anyone have any recommendations of a reliable model?
I use my phone mostly for text, WhatsApp, social media, mn, BBC sounds and Spotify.

Did you have problems when transferring the contents from iPhone to an Android?

Thank you.

I’ve just gone from Android to iPhone and most of the apps transferred fine except WhatsApp. because the way iPhones and Android phones store messages is different it’s almost impossible to bring the history with you. There are some transfer apps you can buy which claim to do this but they don’t work. So I’ve had to start again which is a bit annoying.

Thank you for your response @Lilyminilli. I will investigate a bit further.

Reliability isn't a big issue with most mobiles. The key thing is the update policy. Make sure that the manufacturer is committed to updating at least to Android 11, ideally Android 12.

I haven't done the research myself to tell you which phones are likely to get updates that far into the future.

Thank you @CruelAndUnusualParenting, that is useful to know. I will be going the the Carphone Warehouse soon to window shop and ask the sales assistants.

@lilyminilli do you have a Google account? have you tried transferring WhatsApp from your android to iPhone using your Google account? WhatsApp gets backed up daily (if back up is switched on) to Google drive. so all your previous messages, pics etc should transfer from your Google back ups to your new iPhone.

You can go into WhatsApp and save the chats. No idea re IOS to android I just have Apple as can't be doing with all the swapping over drama myself
