disc cleanup problems on my pc

pirategirl · 16/11/2007 08:29

an icon appeared yesterday, saying click here as you have little space left on your c drive. Then it says disc cleanup is calculating how much space you will be able to free. This might take a few mins, wel an hour late its not moved from about one tenth along the bar.

I looked at disc frag, yesterday and said it can't do it with so little space left on drive.

What can i do??? thanks

can you empty your recycle bin, temp internet files etc?
also, the first time I did disc cleanup it took ages. make sure your screen saver is off so it's not trying to run that too, and give it another go.

download ccleaner and run it, then click on "Fix" or whatever it's called, and it will clean up your hard drive.

It's free and works very well, my pc was much happier after I'd done that.

oh yeah, someweird stuff came up in my docs a few months back,

windows xp hotfix things.

as i tried to delete them, as files, they kept reproducing themselves, there's loads of them little blighters.

I see that there are a fair few in the ccleaner list of progs, that i could remove, shall i get rid, I have no idea what they are!!

go into my computer, and single click on the C: icon.
It should tell you on the left how much free space you have.

tissy · 16/11/2007 13:35

If ccleaner has found them, I doubt if they'll be important, so I would remove them.

(Disclaimer: I am by no means a computer expert, just telling you what worked for me)

pirategirl · 16/11/2007 13:37

c cleaner hasn't recomended they should go,they are just inthe list of progs!!!

LOL! I copy mine to 2 CDs so I have a duplicate copy before I delete them from my PC.

Frees up loads of space once you empty the recycle bin. I have to do it every 2 months now I have a 10mb camera as each photo is up to 4mb!

SoupDragon · 16/11/2007 13:44

10mp camera

pirategirl · 16/11/2007 13:47

good idea, i know i did this , but failed to label the bloody cd, so have to go thru them, for the most recent . There is absolutely no excuse, for the amount of time I spend on this darn thing, but i alsways get hooked up on mn, ebay, and dating sites.

It is indeed 2gb. I knew there had to be loads of cr*p on it but had no idea how to find and remove it so this was a timely thread!
