HairyIrene · 14/11/2007 17:15

space puppy
are they bt now then?
would care actually, they were so good i didnt notice til it was gone..

brimfull · 14/11/2007 19:27

hairyirene-sorry I'm mistaken it was BT they were mentioning on the website and I jumped to conclusions.

Dh is interested in the sky option to include some tv channels
thanks for the recommendation though will definitely keep it in mind if I can persuade dh away from sky.

We're with eclipse... would recommend. Recently moved from virgin media and saving a massive amount each month.

normabutty · 14/11/2007 19:34

We're with Zen and they're very good.

HairyIrene · 14/11/2007 20:15

zen, thats sounds interesting!
would like that in my email address!

ggirl dont worry! and good luck

SpacePuppy · 15/11/2007 15:45

No defo nothing to do with BT, will kill myself first I think. F2S has never ever let us down.

tissy · 15/11/2007 15:59

Pipex are excellent, I've been with them for years; very few outages, and very good customer service. At the moment they're offering £9.99 a month for up to 2 GB and free evening/ weekend phone calls.

GeekBoy · 23/11/2007 15:07

Sky rock (although I've heard that other people have had problems). AOL were good but too basic for how I use the mintyNet. BT never went wrong. PlusNet lost 2 years worth of email but other than that little catastrophe provided a pretty faultless service to me for 3 years. Demon were rock solid but too expensive.

Botbot · 23/11/2007 15:49

We're with Pipex too and sometimes have connection problems (routinely takes about five goes to connect on a Friday night). But nothing bad enough to consider changing to another provider.

nannynick · 25/11/2007 09:20

I'm with Clara.Net currently. They are very reliable, possibly due to mostly providing business connections. However they are expensive, so I am looking for alternatives. Want to avoid Local Loop Unbundling if at all possible, so expect that will limit my choice, as most providers seem to want to take over your phone line! Anyone recommend any providers, who don't require you to route voice calls through them?

Oenophile · 25/11/2007 09:43

Have a llook at DSLZone for a comparison of ISPs and their ratings (it also explains various things in a helpful manner, with links to the ISPs it rates.)

I also wanted to avoid LLU, NannyNick, and have gone with ADSL24 (changing from Pipex). I went for their fixed-speed package of 2mbs (all my exchange can manage) with a 30gig peak d/l cap a month - plenty for my needs, we will barely use 6 gb this month, though that will change at Xmas when my DDs are home and we will then have 3 pcs and 2 lappies on the go. However, there's also an allowance of 300 gb OFF-peak (1opm-8am and all weekend) so I'll encourage them to do most of their music downloads then - though I still think 30 gb is plenty for normal use, unless you do torrents.

I do recommend ADSL24, the contract is only for one month and as you can see from DSLZone they are currently rated one of the top ISPs in the UK. Haven't had any problems and the changeover was very smooth. They do cap off-peak speeds to 2mbs though - no problem for me as it's all I can get - but might annoy you if you get more all day and then come down at nights.

Do be sure to think carefully before choosing LLU, whichever ISP you go with - I know several people whose speeds actually went DOWN after changing to it - a fixed-speed connection is always going to be a safer option.

If you live in an area which can handle it (I don't) I'd take a look at BEthere, also highly rated. It offers fantastic speeds of up to 20 mb or something incredible - though most get less than this, but still around 10MBs, way faster than other ISPs.) My friend, very techie, does a lot of torrents, changed to it and now has around 8mbs d/l and a big u/l speed too. He's very enthusiastic about it. I'd change to it if it were available in my aread.

bigspender30 · 29/11/2007 13:00

I would recommend Freedom to surf. They have an english call centre ( always a big plus in my book) and if you are having a problem, you get to talk with the same person each time.
