Which camcorder to buy?

Can anyone recommend a good camcorder? I am completely ignorant about such things, so don't even know what I should be looking for. I would like to spend under £250/300 if poss. As you can probably tell, it will need to be idiot-friendly. Thanks.

we have this one it was at least double that rpice when we got it 18 months ago! It is dead easy to use - even DH can manage it!

buyers guide may be useful too

Thanks. It looks v cheap (which is a good thing) - would you recommend it?

oh yes, would recommend. I find it very easy to use, pic quality is good, its also tiny and v light so you can actually take it on days out with you. I have no other camcorder experience though, someone else may have better info!

ah, I think you're the only one replying to my thread though

maybe the camcorder experts aren't around at the mo!

Bessie123 · 06/11/2007 12:40

heh. Perhaps. Apparently, panasonic ones are also good - I might have a look at those, too. The problem is that I know absolutely nothing, so it's a bit of a steep learning curve.

Bessie, one would have thought MN is probably
not the best place for camcorder advice but fret not!

I was in the same position as you 2 years ago and started
this thread which should give you all the answers you need

  • if you have a few hours

What my thread ignores is HD (high definition)
and HDD (hard drive instead of tape)
which is not a problem for you as HD/HDD models
are still too expensive, relative to your budget.

Have a look at the thread and
let me know if any of it makes sense!

thanks v much; will have a look at it now.
