Colorizing old photos (without photoshop)

Are there any free or at least not that costly and beginner friendly photo programs that colorize old photos? I was kindly asked to bring some color back to several faded black and white pictures but getting a whole Photoshop subscription for that sounds insane. Do you happen to be aware of any alternatives?

I think you can try Photoworks, it's a photo editor that has photo restoration software functions, or Photoglory, it can automatically colorize black and white photos. If you are looking for something free, then Gimp will probaby do.
Not sure about the last one, though, I haven't used it for recoloring, but people say it's good.

Gimp is often touted as a free alternative to Photoshop. Another one very worth looking at is Paint.Net. It will almost certainly do what you need.

I didn't think Paint will suit me, but I'll look at it again, thanks!

@itsalwayssunnyhere I have photoshop subscription so I'm surprised at this. In my experience the automatic colourisation apps are pretty poor anyway and it takes a level of skill. I do this as part of my Etsy shop (which is just a hobby) message me and I'll see what I can do for free. I think you can get photoshop 'photo subscription on a monthly basis, maybe just cancel after a month? Just £10. Lots of you tube videos to show you how to do it x

This is a 100 year old photo I did, which is more of an art print, but fun to do.

I think that is a very nice colourisation morninglive.
