Tablet recommendation for iPhone user

I have an iPhone provided through work, which is fine and does what I need. I'm not an Apple groupie - my laptop is a Windows one and is fine, but slow and a bit heavy. I'm after a tablet that will let me do some fairly simple things - I want to be able to watch exercise videos on YouTube without squinting at my phone, watch Netflix and other streaming services, read library books on Overdrive etc without squinting at my small phone screen. I don't need anything fancy. Given I have an Apple account with all the apps, should I just suck up the cost and get an iPad, or would an Amazon Fire (half the price of even the cheapest iPad) do the job without causing me too many headaches? I'm really leaning towards the Amazon Fire option as it seems crazy to spend all that money on an iPad, but if it's going to mean endless issues with synching across devices on apps then I will suck up the extra costs. Interested to hear in particular from people who already have both, and how they find it.

Fire's are, imho, awful. They also only seem to last 18-2 years, admittedly that's with dc using them but they do seem to be designed to 'break' at around that point & even if you replace the battery they're never as good, the range of apps isn't that good either. I love my kindle paperwhite & find Alexa useful on occasions so I'm not anti Amazon tech. If you don't fancy an iPad the Galaxy tabs are quite good, dc2 has had his for 3 years now & it's still running fine & the App Store has a good range. You can get reconditioned iPads to n eBay though so you don't have to fork out the cost of a brand new one.

Reconditioned iPad is a good idea, thanks. And also thanks for warning me off the Amazon Fire. Definitely want something with a little longevity. DP has a Samsung tablet - will talk to him.
