Give me 10 minutes and I'll (try) respond. Just replying now so I can come back..

"Looks fine if he only wants to run like fortnight etc"

PawsyMcPawFace · 03/01/2021 12:43

Brilliant thanks. What about COD? He tells me it’s top of the range but I haven’t got a clue. It’s his 16th and I don’t want him wasting all his birthday and Xmas money. It’s £700 secondhand, makes me very nervous.
Would it be easy to upgrade if it only does the likes of fortnite? Just think of future games etc and them becoming ever more complex with the graphics.

Thats a lot for what it is and won't be much good for COD. It will struggle apparently. This is coming from someone who really knows his stuff, he built his own computer. He says its not top of the range

yahyahs22 · 03/01/2021 16:12

He said it would be around the same price brand new so you're better off buying it brand new (if you could put it together) so you have warranties. He said he would never recommend buying second hand as you never know what you're going to get.
Youre better off going to curry's/pc World and just saying to them someone's given me this price for this, could you do better? You'll likely get a discount too

yahyahs22 · 03/01/2021 16:13

Sorry for spam, he double checked and said COD 'would probably be alright, just might push it a bit.'

Mutunus · 03/01/2021 16:14

Flipping heck that's actually a very good spec OP, and it'll run a bit more than Fortnite.

It's much better than my gaming machine and I can play most games at 1400 x 900 quite happily. (1400x900 is a relatively low resolution. High resolution is a trade off against frame rate, but 1440x900 is fine for me)
The price is perhaps a bit high for second hand, but It's all decent quality bits - eg Corsair, Seagate, Asus.
The PSU may be a little under spec for the graphics card, MSI recommend 600w but if it works Ok then don't panic. Make sure you have the latest graphics card drivers installed as earlier ones were a bit flakey.
The machine should be upgradable.
Happy gaming!

Thanks all. It’s doing my head in and he wants to get it now now now. As you can imagine. He sees things on Facebook but that makes me really nervous. I’d rather buy it from somewhere you’ve got some come back on.

It's oookay, not amazing. It'd cost about £800 for a new one, with warranty.

If you can talk them down to under £600 that'd be reasonable.

Mutunus · 03/01/2021 23:55

No local firms you can get a similar quote from OP?

cdtaylornats · 04/01/2021 16:20

OS: Windows 10 64 Bit (latest Service Pack)
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD Ryzen R5 1600X processor
RAM: 16GB RAM
HDD: 246GB HD space
Video: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060
DirectX: Requires DirectX 12 compatible system
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Sound Card: DirectX Compatible

That is the suggested spec for CoD when not playing in competition.

FixTheBone · 04/01/2021 16:24

Agree, plenty of brand new, warrantied machines in the price range that would be better value.

Plus AWD-IT and CCL will do custom builds, bear in mind these wont have a monitor (could use a TV) or mouse and keyboard, but you dont say if the second hand one does....
