I've zoomed in on my house, most untidy garden on the block I then 'flew' over to Florida to have a nosey around Disney and a guided tour of the Supper club in Rome, then I had to get on around the house, but it's fun!!!! (I don't get out much )

Ds2 is a geography nut and we enjoy zooming in to places and seeing if he can guess where in the world we are. Good fun!

ScaryScienceT · 21/10/2007 20:02

It's excellent. The driving directions are brilliant.

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 20:06

It's so out of date. My house isn't even on it !

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 20:09

Looking around the rest of the pics of my city there are lots of landmarks missing. The pic must be at least 4 years old

Hulababy · 21/10/2007 20:10

My house isn't on it too. And the apartment I lived in a couple of years ago is still a building site. So look like our area hasn't been updated since 2002-2002 ish.

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 20:19

I reckon it's the same with mine, Hula. 2000, possibly 2001

UnquietDad · 21/10/2007 20:20

Our car is on the drive in the pictures of our area, and we moved in during 2004.

Hulababy · 21/10/2007 20:20

Shame really as DD likes to look at and to zoom in family's houses. Would be great to do ours!

Katymac · 21/10/2007 20:20

My whole village is just a blur (obv not interesting enough to take photos of)

Hulababy · 21/10/2007 20:26

Oooh, just updated it with newer version. My new house is on there, but before we moved in. So about spring/summer 2005 now. Old apartment is built on it now too. So must have been over Sheffield sometime in 2005

Oenophile · 21/10/2007 20:29

It's one of my favourite ever websitey things! I've travelled all around the world with GE and it's even useful sometimes too in place of a map. And in the fields nearby I can see lumps andbumps under the earth not visible with the naked eye which I can see are the old tithing lines and possibly some ancient structures a la Time Team

My area has been updated recently for we only moved here in 2002 and the latest pics show our garden complete with the trampoline :D real timewaster, GE is though, I can lose track of time on it.

NomDeBroomstick · 21/10/2007 20:31

I downloaded GE onto DS2's laptop about 15 mins ago so I assume I have the latest version

DumbledoresGirl · 21/10/2007 20:32

I could pinpoint the day the photo of my house was taken. We moved in in July 2005 and it is definitely our car in the drive and a van parked outside. I have forgotten what that van was about now, but when I first saw the picture, I remembered it was a specific day. Odd to think of the satelite overhead taking photos.

tribpot · 21/10/2007 20:33

Go to Everest and tilt!

jammydodger · 21/10/2007 20:36

I can see our dog in the garden on Google Earth! (Him doing a poo has now been recorded for all eternity)

3Ddonut · 21/10/2007 20:38

how nice Jammy!!!!!

3Ddonut · 21/10/2007 20:55

You can also search for all football/rugby/sports stadiums around the world and see if you can catch one whilst there is a match or concert on.

Got very drunk with my FIL one night (a sports fanatic) playing that one

ThisIsSabrinaPleaseDoNotScare · 21/10/2007 21:08

maps.live.com is sometimes better and clearer then googleearth so if you cant see your house clearly on GE, try that one instead.

ADragonIs4LifeNotJustHalloween · 21/10/2007 21:12

The grand canyon is another good one. I looked at it thought "what's so great.... then tilted it. Wow. I was also going to suggest Everest like Tribpot did.

UnquietDad · 21/10/2007 21:57

Hulababy - I'm sure I heard recently about some images being taken for GoogleEarth from a plane over SW Sheffield one day this summer - some people were going to go to Endcliffe Park and stand together to form the word HELP! to get it permanently on there.

quickdrawmcgraw · 21/10/2007 22:07

I love Google Earth. I was able to snoop around at my sisters garden in Texas.
I had high hopes for maps.live but when I went to install it it said my computer was too out of date.

sparklygothkat · 21/10/2007 22:08

my house isn't even on googleearth, apparently I live in a field but it was only built last year. I saw my old house and could see DS' little plastic car in the garden lol
