My email on iPad keeps asking for my password on loginlive for my hotmail account to be re entered. Its been going on for a while now but today I can’t get the screen to load the round whirly thing just keeps going round and round. I also have a gmail email and there’s no problem with that so I am wondering if anyone else is having similar problems and might know how to fix? Thanks.

It seems to be a common issue following the recent iPadOS and IOS software upgrade. It looks like is an issue with Microsoft rather than Apple but there is still no fix to this currently unfortunately. Hopefully, another software update will be provided soon which will resolve the issue.

My iPhone is doing the same. I have 3 accounts and it's asking for at least one every day. It's incredibly frustrating

Delete the account then re add it using exchange.

I’d recommend taking a screen shot of the server names first though, just in case you need to enter them. I had to, but DH didn’t.

So annoying! I had the same with my iPhone. It was happening every hour. I did a complete restart of the phone and it's stopped. For now.

I’m glad it’s not just me (sorry!) as I was thinking it might be my internet provider/router dropping the signal, but seems not then.

I have tried switching iPad off then restarting it but it doesn’t work it still wants a password, but I have managed to get to the password screen now. I was thinking of deleting the email account and then re adding it, but I chickened out! 😁

It was since the last iOS update (14.2?) as PP said - Microsoft want you to log in and set the two factor authentication - (I think you can only do this on the website rather than the app) it’s driving me nuts too.
Don’t really want to share my personal data (phone number) with them and I have several outlook accounts linked onto the Mail app on my iPad, so far I’ve resisted but It’s very controlling and infuriating

I deleted the app and reinstalled it, luckily it did recall all the accounts set up, but it still kept asking for the password. I will fight it though as I don’t see why I should hand my phone number out to them

I have a hotmail address and an outlook address and it keeps just requesting th3 password for the outlook account. Confused

It’s just a host for email. If you go into settings-mail-accounts-add account, you’ll see Microsoft exchange as an option. Click on that add your email address and password and away you go.

Hi.... Noooo...😳.I am probably erring on caution, but I am very suspicious about that message and would like an explanation. Will try the Apple help forums maybe, but no so far I have not chosen the Exchange because of that - seems like a warning somehow

I had this today with my iPhone and outlook email. What I did to overcome it was:

  1. Delete the mail account settings in the phone
  2. Switched off WiFi so phone went to mobile data
  3. Set the mail account up. Could happily authenticate and send/receive mail.
  4. Switched WiFi back on on the phone.

This seems to have sorted the issue

I can’t do what PhilCornwall1 suggests as I’m on my iPad and only have WiFi on it. My phone’s fine, no problem on that, it’s not an iPhone though it’s Motorola.

Waiting for the original suggester to come back on that one
I am not comfortable with that wording personally so I’m not bothering
Must admit it’s been fine today - perhaps it will iron out in the next software update....
