Converting video8 tapes to digital

We’re been sorting our loft and have found a box of mini video8 8mm tapes which we want to convert to a digital format. Does anyone know the best way to go about this?

Place marking as I need to do this too. I bought a cable and software online but it didn't work, the camera wouldn't connect to the computer or tv.

I ought to add that the video camera is no longer working.

You can get devices to put the tapes in but I couldn't recommend one because I've not tried it. Hopefully somebody else will suggest one because that's what I need to try next.

Yes we used to have one which enabled us to play the mini tapes in a standard vhs player - but we haven’t got either anymore!

Max Spielmann will probably convert them, at a price.

Thats the issue - there are loads of them and no way of knowing which have good stuff on them and which have hours of footage of PFB blinking!

Just search your thread title - there a many companies who do this.

Yes I was trying to see if there was a way of doing it myself, but think I'll have to go with a company. Have found one that does it for £6.50 a tape, which is the cheapest I've seen.

Hurray - we got the video camera working so can now view the tapes and reject the tedious ones. The first one I viewed had 19 yr old DS1s first ever Nativity play and 18 year old DS2 age 3 looking impossibly cute. It might take me a while to go through them at this rate.
