I've 2 old laptops and an iPad that I need to dispose of somehow, but I'm rubbish with all things tec so... 1) I don't know how to make them safe i.e. wipe them clean of all data etc and 2) I don't know where to dispose or pass them on to. Any advice would be much appreciated !Smile

Here's a link to factory resetting your Ipad. 9to5mac.com/2020/07/06/how-to-factory-reset-ipad-erase-everything/
As for the laptops; if you're scrapping them, then the easiest way to ensure you're not passing on your data is to remove the hard drives and scrap the rest. You can then hammer the drives and dispose of them separately. If you want to pass the laptops on in a usable state then get someone (local IT shop?) to format the drives and reload the operating system.
Once they are cleared perhaps check with a local charity or self help group to see if they can make use of them.

Wiping the disks securely requires more than just formatting. I have recovered data (photos) from memory cards after formatting. If you are reasonably good with technical stuff, there is a program called DBAN (Darik's Boot And Nuke) that will securely wipe a disk, so it even an expensively equipped CIA lab would have trouble getting anything off the disk.
