Hi. Tried deleting deleted. No success. Optimised phone storage. No success.

Her photos take up 90gb. She deleted 60,000 photos. And deleted them off deleted photos. She only has 14000 left. And they still seem to take up the same amount of storage space as when there were over 70,000 photos on her phone.

Any ideas?

This is going to sound stupid but just asking as a friend of mine was getting stewed up as she thought her storage was running out. It turned out that this was just iCloud storage and Apple give you 5 gbts free and then you can pay 79p per month for large amount. This does not affect the capacity of the phone. Have you looked at the capacity left on your device which you can check in settings? Just go to General, then All About and scroll down to ‘capacity’ and then ‘available’which will tell you what you have left. You have probably done all that but it was just a thought.

I would take it in person into an Apple Store and ask them.

Clicked "post" too soon.

They can be really helpful in person, and particularly if you are polite but persistent, they should be able to fix it for you there and then.

Not sure how that works in Covid times though..,

Has she restarted the phone

Waiting for someone to suggest putting it rice next Grin

Imo she had optimised photo storage on, which means the full image is stored in the cloud and not on her device. So when she deleted the photos from her device, it made a minimal difference as the full image data wasn’t stored on the device to begin with

Go into settings - general - iPhone storage and check what is actually using up her data storage. Could be anything from social media app caches, Spotify downloads, app updates etc.

I don’t think this is something you need to physically visit apple over though. It’s minor. Use their online/app support service as they’ll take you through the same troubleshooting steps. It will most likely involve backing up her phone, restoring it to factory settings then recovering the backup

You need to delete what is in the trash. Photos stay there for 30 days or so after deletion, and so continue to take up storage space
