Does anyone know a good broadband supplier that is ethical i.e.pays proper tax, treats employees fairly etc.

Pretty well everybody - it isn't as if they have sweatshops full of kids passing along the bytes.

Have a look at The Phone Coop

According to the Good Shopping Guide, the most ethical broadband suppliers are TalkTalk, Post Office, Utility Warehouse, Zen Internet, TenTel, Virgin Media and Vodafone. The least ethical are plusnet, EE, BT, Sky, SSE and John Lewis. However, even the lowest rated gets 70 out of a possible 100.

I would be a little cautious about the above ratings as the Good Shopping Guide lists fuel broadband as an ethical supplier. They closed down and were bought out by Post Office 3 years ago.

What exactly does ethical supplier mean in this context? All of them essentially run over the same infrastructure unless Sky or Virgin have cable laid. They tend to all cluster in the BT exchange to access the backbone.

The Good Shopping Guide rates suppliers on environment (where they all seem to get top rating), animal (again, all top rating), people (armaments, political donations and human rights - some suppliers are rated lower on these measures) and other (ethical accreditation and public record criticisms - again, some suppliers are rated lower on these measures).

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to not use firms that are shitty; eg I don't use Sky, Now TV, the Sun, (or anything Murdoch related), Amazon (unless there's really no alternative) etc etc. As stated above, I'd like to use companies that are fair to staff and pay their proper taxes. I'm just sickened by the corruption and greed of the big companies. It's impossible to avoid all of them but I look for alternatives where possible. Also, I've always admired Liverpool for its stance re the Sun.
*gets off high horse
