Local account or Microsoft account

My dad says his computer isn't quite right and it seems he's logged in as a local account instead of his Microsoft account so no longer needs to enter a password. This is since he had it fixed months ago. Does it matter? I can't work out how to change it. His email works which is an outlook account with a different password to the Microsoft account. Can anyone help. I'm a bit confused. Thanks.

Doesn't really matter if all he only has the machine for general use. There are a few advantages to using a microsoft account such as disk encryption, data syncing between machines and access to the microsoft store. If none of that is important to him the then don't worry. I would however set a password or preferably a PIN number for security.

Thanks very much for your reply. I'll set a password for him.
